Kitesurf
RECOMMENDED SPOTS
Malcesine and Brenzone are by far the best kitesurfing spots on Lake Garda. There are only two spots regulated and run by local clubs, where you can practise independently: one of these is in Navene (Malcesine) on the Venetian coast, just before the border with Trentino Region.
There are various schools on the lake that take you to where the best wind is on rubber dinghies… a lake return shuttle service of sorts!
THE BEST WINDS
In the morning, the Malcesine coastline is hit by the Pelèr, a strong wind blowing from the north, and in the afternoon by the Ora, a more regular wind from the south that dies down at sunset, much later than in any other spot on Lake Garda. With northerly wind, you can set sail from the beaches of Campagnola and Assenza; with southerly wind, from Navene.
Campagnola is a large pebble beach located about 3 km north of Malcesine.
You can only sail out to sea from here with strong winds from the north, as the beach is reserved for bathers who flock here when the lake is calm. This spot is spacious enough to allow several kites to assemble their equipment and take off at the same time; there are also several points for downwind landing in the event of problems.
BEACHES FOR KITERS
Navene is located about 5 km north of Malcesine. Here, in collaboration with the Municipality, a special beach has been created by the Kitesurfing Club. In order to use the Malcesine area and its services, you must register with the local club. The space is big enough for assembling more than one kite, but the launch is possible only at a time. You are required to follow the few rules of conduct to avoid wasting time unnecessarily and especially to avoid creating dangerous situations in the launch area.
It is possible to land downwind in the two bays below the area, after which you reach a long stretch where the rocks fall into the lake. In the event of an emergency, a recovery service is available for a fee.
Assenza is a beach located about 5 km south of Malcesine, opposite the island of Trimelone. Here you usually get out when the wind from the north is particularly strong and gusty in the area of Campagnola; as it covers more ground, it tends to stabilize losing some of its intensity.
Campione is a beach managed by the Kite Campione Sports Association where the excellent wind conditions allow take off both in the morning and in the afternoon.
